"The main thing I like is that the British have their own point of view and they think independently. And that is what makes you special."
My name is Cesare Maschi, I am a puppeteer, I’m forty three, and I am Italian.
I came to England for the first time at the end of the 90’s because everyone likes London, everyone is attracted by London, somehow there is so much... The main reason for me was music, even if I said that I was coming here to study English, the real reason was music, because I wanted to go to gigs and see the music scene here.
There are many things I like about Britain; I like the humour, but the main thing I like is that the British have their own point of view and they think independently. And that is what makes you special. When you talk with British people, every time it happens that I feel “Oh, I didn’t think about that, yeah, I like this point of view. Oh yeah, he’s right”. And this is really important especially now, when the world is getting all the same, it’s important for the British to keep their point of view, their originality.
When I go back to Italy, my friends don’t tell me that I'm changed because I was always a bit, coming from another city somehow, when I was in Turin, they were looking at me as if I was from Parma. When I was in Parma they were looking at me like I was from Modena. So I was all the time a bit a foreigner somehow.
